One common dental problem we hear about often here in our Spokane dentist office is the issue of tooth erosion. Tooth erosion is what occurs when enamel is worn away by acid, such as from certain foods or beverages. The problems you can experience as a result of tooth erosion can be mild, such as discoloration, or quite severe, including, deep indentations or tooth pitting, cracked teeth and severe sensitivity. Our professionals are committed to patient education and it is our mission to inform our patients on issues of prevention regarding common dental problems. Allow us to make some suggestions to help you avoid potential tooth erosion. Since acidic foods and beverages are the leading culprits of tooth erosion, it’s a good idea to rinse your mouth with plain water after consuming these substances to help neutralize acid in your mouth. You will also want to wait at least one hour before brushing your teeth after eating or drinking anything acidic. This will give your teeth an opportunity to remineralize. The phosphoric acid in many carbonated beverages is also very damaging to tooth enamel. The dental professionals here in our Spokane dentist office recommend reducing your consumption of these beverages or replacing them with other healthier options. One thing many people don’t think of, but that can really help limit your exposure to acids is to simply use a straw when drinking acidic beverages like fruit juices-these are very high in natural acids-coffee or tea. This is also a good idea when drinking anything overly sweet. Liquids will go straight to the back of the mouth rather than washing all around the teeth. Also resist the temptation to swish acidic liquids around in your mouth before swallowing. Your dental professional may also recommend that you chew sugar-free gum. Chewing gum can help increase saliva flow, which also helps with remineralization. Our Spokane dentists often suggest this to our patients. You should always use a soft toothbrush and brush with fluoride toothpaste. Did you know that fluoride can help reduce tooth sensitivity? If sensitivity is severe you can talk to one of our dental professionals in our Spokane dentist office about prescribing fluoride for you that you can brush on and let sit on your teeth awhile before brushing. This oftentimes significantly reduces tooth sensitivity after regular usage of the fluoride product. There can be several different factors that can contribute to tooth erosion. It’s therefore important to discuss with a dental professional any concerns you may have about tooth erosion and the care you can take to minimize this condition if you are already seeing signs of it. Your dental professional can then make recommendations as to dental products that can help manage the condition. Dentists in our Spokane dentist office are currently accepting new patients and can provide excellent advice for this and all other dental issues.

Friendly, gentle and efficient. These are all attributes we are proud to have describe our professionals and staff here in our Spokane dentist office. Our patients frequently comment on our friendly service, gentle treatment and the efficiency in which we handle our office. It’s a great feeling to know that we have so many satisfied customers.

Our office is guided by our commitment to patient education and to delivering the highest quality dental care at affordable prices. Our staff strives to educate our patients on all aspects of good oral hygiene as well as treatment procedures. Our dentists and hygienists want to do all they can to ensure that you are taking the best possible care of your teeth, and to make sure you are able to make the most educated decisions when it comes to treatment options and procedures.

Communication with patients is key for our office, as is providing patient choices and personalized care. The Spokane dentists you will meet here are compassionate, highly skilled and bring years of clinical experience to our practice. We are members of the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. Our dentists complete many hours of continuing education courses each year to remain current with the most up-to-date technology and methods so they may provide you with the highest level of dental care possible.

In our Spokane dentist office we offer a full range of dental services including all aspects of preventive dentistry, aesthetic and restorative dentistry, periodontal therapy, pediatric dentistry, as well as sedation dentistry for those with severe dental anxiety. We also perform dental implants, dental crowns, implant restorations, fillings (amalgam or composite) and root canals. For our valued citizens 65 and older we also offer a senior discount.

Our Spokane dentist office is happy to accept many dental insurance plans and we also offer flexible financing options. We are happy to work with you to set up an individualized plan that meets your needs so be sure to speak with one of knowledgeable finance team members if you would like to discuss available financing terms.

Emergency dental treatment is an unfortunate fact of life and we always have someone on call who can respond to serious injuries involving your teeth. Many times teeth that have come out due to trauma can be re-implanted by a professional if the situation is addressed quickly enough.

The old wives’ tale of putting a knocked-out tooth in milk to help preserve it does have some merit. Milk’s fairly neutral Ph and favorable osmotic properties can help stabilize the tooth until you have time to get to a dentist. You have a window of about one hour before the periodontal root and the pulp begin to die, so after that re-implantation is unlikely.

We invite you to contact our Spokane dentists for all your dental health care needs, emergency or otherwise. It will be our pleasure to assist you in achieving optimum oral health.

If you are looking to restore your smile and are searching for a Spokane dentist to assist you in this endeavor, teeth whitening may be a good option for you. We offer this service here in our Spokane dentist office. Let us tell you about some of the benefits of this procedure.

As you may know, teeth whitening can help restore luster to teeth that have become stained, dull or discolored over time. Often this staining is caused by various foods such as coffee, tea, red wine and berries. Food particles in these substances are attracted by a particular protein in them that then binds to tooth enamel, resulting in staining. Also, as enamel wears away, more dentin in the teeth becomes exposed which then results in yellowing. Aging and trauma can also be factors that contribute to teeth becoming stained or discolored, as can certain medications.

You may be tempted to try at-home teeth whitening kits, but although these commercially available products can be somewhat effective for some people, they contain harsh ingredients that wear away tooth enamel and can cause sensitivity.

We offer a tooth whitening system here in our Spokane dentist office, administered by a professional trained in the procedure. You are much more likely to have satisfactory results when your tooth whitening procedure is done by a professional. When done properly, results can last up to five years.

Something to keep in mind, however, is that whitening agents change tooth color, but are not effective on all types of stains. Brownish or grayish colorization will not be affected by bleach, so teeth affected by excess fluoride or certain other medications are not good candidates for this procedure. Neither would be pitted, badly discolored teeth or those involving restorations such as bonding, tooth colored fillings, bridges or crowns. The use of dental bonding or porcelain veneers would likely be the best course of action in these situations.

We are deeply committed to using the safest, most effective methods to assure the most desirable results for our tooth whitening patients, and we encourage you to contact our Spokane dentist to discuss how we can assist you in attaining the white smile you are hoping for.

If cost is a concern to you we have a friendly finance staff that will be happy to discuss billing options with you for treatment. We generally recommend an initial treatment with follow-ups at suggested intervals to maintain your new white smile. This will allow you optimum results. We routinely offer specials on teeth whitening and can assist you with a customized payment plan if that best suits your needs. Don’t wait another minute to restore your smile! A whiter, brighter smile is virtually minutes away.

If it has been awhile since your last dental checkup, or perhaps you are new to the area and are looking for a new dentist, let us take this opportunity to tell you a bit about our Spokane office. We are accepting new patients and invite you to make an initial appointment with one of our friendly staff members for a dental checkup, cleaning and exam. Feel free to ask any questions you may have at this time. During your initial appointment set up call this would be a great time to discuss any questions you may have about appointment length or cost of service.

We’ll ask that you arrive a few minutes early so you will have an opportunity to fill out our new patient questionnaire and medical history form. Information on any medication you are currently taking as well as any illnesses or surgeries you may have had is very important for us to know. This may have an impact on your dental treatment, including any medications the dentist may need to prescribe for you if your dental checkup indicates you have an issue that warrants further treatment.

We recommend preparing for your initial dental checkup appointment in our Spokane office by bringing along a list of current medications. Oftentimes we encounter patients who have avoided going to the dentist due to nervousness. We find that being fully prepared often allows our patients a greater sense of control, helping to alleviate nervousness.

Don’t forget your dental insurance card if you have coverage that includes dental checkups! We will take a copy of your card and keep it on file here in our Spokane dentist office so we will have it on hand for future use.

During your dental checkup X-rays may be taken which will allow us to give you a more complete exam and a full report of the condition of your teeth and mouth. We will typically want to do a full mouth series consisting of four bitewings and 14 periapical films which will show the tips of roots of your teeth and the supporting bone area. These X-rays are important diagnostic tools for the dentist.

Your dental checkup will also involve checking your teeth and gums for signs of decay. The dentist will be checking for cavities and if any are found will make recommendations for filling at a future appointment. We will also be checking for signs of gum disease by doing periodontal probing, checking the foundations of the teeth. The hygienist may suggest better brushing or flossing methods if signs of gum disease are present, or may prescribe an antibacterial rinse. Tartar, or calcium deposits can cause gum inflammation and we will see that this is cleaned thoroughly.

We encourage you to contact our Spokane dentist office to schedule your dental checkup today. We are committed to providing you with excellent oral health services.
